HAPPY GRAMMAR DAY!

So, to commemorate Grammar Day, I present to you this- lo! An abomination!

8. Irregardless is not a word. Wrong! Irregardless is a word in the same way ain’t is a word. They’re informal. They’re nonstandard. You shouldn’t use them if you want to be taken seriously, but they have gained wide enough use to qualify as words. (See episode 94 for more details.)

this, and other grammar mythos here

‘Irregardless’ is a word? I can’t believe it! I do feel a little ill whenever someone uses it. It seems unfair that a word so wrong can be made right just because it has gained (and I quote) “wide enough use to qualify as words”.

Regardless, I would like to wish the grammar nazis I know (cough, Camille!) a Happy Grammar Day!
